Want to protect outdoor wood without changing its colour? Ronseal Crystal Clear Outdoor Varnish in satin comes in a 750ml tin and is made for exterior doors and windows on smooth planed wood. It is a water-based, low VOC varnish that Ronseal say doesn’t yellow like traditional varnishes, so the natural wood shows through, and it is rainproof in just one hour. Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
Ronseal quote coverage of up to 16m² per litre and recommend three coats, brushed on in the direction of the grain with six hours between coats. For wood that is already stained or varnished, sand with 120 grit sandpaper in circular motions, then wipe with white spirit and a cloth. New wood needs a light sand with 120 grit and a wipe clean. Sand lightly between coats, especially before the third, for a smoother finish. Brushes wash out in warm, soapy water, and once dry the door can be cleaned normally. A low price way to look after your outdoor woodwork.
